A suspect arrested in connection with a violent armed robbery at an area store has been linked to other recently committed crimes, police said.
On Friday, Jan. 4, detectives from the Carmel Police Department arrested Anthony Pesiri, 43, of Mahopac in connection with the Dec. 1 robbery of the Video Games Plus Store, located at 2 Clark Place in Mahopac.
It is alleged that Pesiri displayed what appeared to be a black firearm and pointed it towards the register clerk demanding that he open the cash register, said Chief Michael Cazzari of the Town of Carmel Police Department.
When the clerk refused, Pesiri struck the victim numerous times in the head and upper arm area with the firearm causing pain, lacerations and bruising, Cazzari said. Pesiri is alleged to have then grabbed the register and exit the store while carrying it.
After an extensive investigation by the detectives and interviews of the victim and witnesses, Carmel Police were able to identify the alleged vehicle used to flee the crime, and subsequently identify a person of interest.
Through interviews and surveillance, detectives executed a search warrant and recovered valuable evidence related to this robbery.
Pesiri was arrested after Carmel Police officers conducted a felony traffic stop. He was placed under arrest and brought to the Carmel Police headquarters for processing without incident.
Detectives with the Carmel Police Department have linked Pesiri to other larcenies, grand larcenies and criminal acts that he is alleged to have committed in the Town of Carmel, according to Cazzari.
Pesiri has been charged with:
- First-degree robbery, a Class B felony;
- Assault with a weapon, a Class B felony;
- Petit Larceny, a Class A misdemeanor;
- Criminal use of a firearm in the first degree, a Class B felony.
The Carmel Police Department said many residents and business owners provided assistance in the investigation.
"It is our caring community that always comes together in times of trouble to assist their neighbors," Cazzari said. "Thank you."
